Dr. Charis Kubrin bio:

Charis E. Kubrin is Professor of Criminology, Law and Society at the University of California, Irvine, and co-director of the Irvine Laboratory for the Study of Space and Crime. She is co-recipient of the 2026 Stockholm Prize in Criminology — widely regarded as criminology's equivalent of the Nobel Prize, given for "outstanding achievements in criminological research or for the application of research results by practitioners for the reduction of crime and the advancement of human rights."

Dr. Kubrin's decades of research on immigration has shown immigration leading to lower community crime rates in many cities in the US, Canada, and Australia. In her most recent work, Dr. Kubrin addresses policy-relevant nuances including the differential effects of legal versus undocumented immigrant status, first versus second generation immigration, and economic context — research with great potential as scientific support in policy-making
