The Criminal Investigations Club is a new club on campus. Graycee McCarty, Mackenzie Muell, Katie Shrouds, and Ted Ginsburg (students in the School of Criminal Justice) came up with the idea for a new club last Spring. Their goal was to create a community-based and engaging club that was open to students of all majors.
Members will put themselves in the shoes of the investigators while discussing ongoing and recently closed investigations that have been popular in the news. As a result, members will also have an opportunity to discuss what they would have done differently based on what they have learned and experienced. Some meetings will also have guest speakers come in and discuss what they have done in their careers and open themselves up for networking.
Ginsburg says “We all have different perspectives, grew up in different places, and have different points of view. So, we will all have different ways of looking at a case and trying to solve a case. Coming together is much better than tackling these cases separately.”
Separate from investigations, the e-board, comprised of the founding members of this club, and many of the students in the School of Criminal Justice have countless connections across the country. Having a space to connect about these networking opportunities routinely can be the foundation of countless career opportunities in a wide variety of criminal justice fields.
Faculty advisor, Dr. Wally Wojciechowski says “It is great seeing our students being so interested in the material that they were motivated to start a club devoted to the topic outside of class. I hope we see more clubs like this start up around more special interest areas in criminal justice in the future."
The Criminal Investigations Club meets twice a month, on Thursdays, from 7:00pm – 8:00pm in 128 Erickson Hall. Their next meeting is Thursday 9/26/2024.
