Biography

Makayla is a third year doctoral student in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University. She received her B.S. in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with Highest Honors and Academic Distinction in 2020. Her research interests include victimology, sexual violence, and cybercrimes. Makayla is currently serving as Vice President of Student Affairs and Media for the School of Criminal Justice’s Graduate Student Association (GSA). She is currently working on a grant funded project to help the Michigan State Police with their Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI). Her work has been published in Crime & Delinquency, the Journal of Criminal Justice, the Journal of Family Violence, and Criminal Justice Review.
