Biography

Shelagh Dorn, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor (term) in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University, where she teaches in the online master’s program in Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysis. A practitioner–scholar, she supports the Cornell University Police / Cornell Public Safety with crime and intelligence analysis and is a Research Fellow with the John F. Finn Institute for Public Safety. Previously, she directed strategic planning and analysis for the Greenville (SC) Police Department and served as a Senior Supervising Criminal Intelligence Analyst with the New York State Police at the New York State Intelligence Center.

Immediate past president of the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA, from 2015–2023), Dr. Dorn currently serves on IALEIA’s Executive Advisory Board. Nationally, she has contributed to securing the homeland and advancing intelligence analysis through the ODNI Law Enforcement Partners’ Board, the DHS State and Local Intelligence Council, and the Criminal Intelligence Coordinating Council (serving recently as the Training Task Force Chair).

Dr. Dorn has developed more than two dozen courses, delivered 50+ conference presentations, and authored peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and applied reports. Dr. Dorn holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany–SUNY, and a B.A. from Cornell University. She is an IALEIA Criminal Intelligence Certified Analyst (CICA-Lifetime).
