Counter-Terrorism Awareness Online Training for U.S. Law Enforcement Officers

Course Description:

This is a self-paced, web-based training program available to verified U.S. law enforcement personnel via the Internet (E-Learning course). It contains the same information as the one-day classroom lecture workshop Anti-Terrorism Training for Law Enforcement presented by the Michigan Regional Community Policing Institute.

Cost:

Free. This E-Learning course project was supported by grant 2004CKWXK027 by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

Target Audience:

U.S. Law Enforcement personnel only. Participants will be asked to provide sworn law enforcement verification.

Goals and Objectives of the Program:

To provide a working knowledge of terrorist and criminal extremist groups and individuals, their activities and tactics, and how to recognize and report indicators of terrorism/criminal extremism.

  • Provide a working definition of terrorism and homeland security.
  • Recognize that terrorism prevention is the responsibility of all law enforcement, regardless of assignment.
  • Develop a working knowledge of both domestic and foreign terrorist/extremist groups.
  • Understand that each terrorist incident is often preceded by planning and preparation.
  • Recognize, identify and understand various terrorism indicators and warning signs exhibited by terrorists/extremists.
  • Identify the role of community policing in the prevention, response and mitigation of terrorism.
  • Understand the terrorists/extremists pose an enhanced threat to officer safety.
