In a recent The Washington Post article entitled “In two years, police killed 86 people brandishing guns that look real – but aren’t”, Dr. David Carter, who spoke to officers in 27 law enforcement agencies for the 1990 study, was quoted “If they are told there’s a person with a gun acting in a threatening manner, that’s what they respond to,”. The article discusses the increasing difficulty law enforcement face when encountering realistic looking toy firearms.
