Professor April Zeoli to speak at Congressional Briefing

The theme of this year’s briefing is “Violence and Violence Prevention”.  Dr. Zeoli‘s main field of investigation is the prevention of intimate partner violence and homicide through policy interventions. Specifically, she is interested in the role of firearms in intimate partner violence and homicide, as well as the civil and criminal justice systems responses to intimate partner violence.

Recent mass killings in Orlando, Dallas, and elsewhere underscore the ongoing need for evidence-based strategies to ensure safety in our communities. More research is essential if we are to have policies and practices that can help to prevent a wide range of violent events, from high-profile mass shootings to the less-publicized but pervasive problems of intimate partner violence and violent acts motivated by bias. This briefing will bring together leading researchers and policymakers in the field of violence prevention to discuss the state of knowledge and cutting-edge approaches to reducing violence.
