Flint Study Away Internship Spotlight - Hailey Ijlal

July 26, 2023 - JJ Thomas

Hailey Ijlal is a senior at MSU studying Criminal Justice (with minors in Law, Justice, and Public Policy and Business) who has spent the summer interning in the Office of the Genesee County Prosecuting Attorney.

The internship is part of the College of Social Science Office of Experiential Learning Flint Study Away Program.

Hailey’s roles in the internship include attending hearings and spending considerable time working on case files related to family and criminal law. Now entering her Senior year, this internship has provided Hailey with an opportunity to apply the concepts taught in Criminal Justice courses to the real-world experiences of a Prosecuting Attorney, including how to build a case from the ground up.

Because of this, Hailey says: “I feel that I have grown personally and professionally in many aspects throughout the course of this internship; I have met many outstanding and welcoming individuals, who have aided in my development of numerous new skills and abilities that I will carry with me. I have had countless eye-opening experiences; I think acknowledging the challenges that individuals conquer throughout everyday life is definitely important, as it is seen within the different opportunities I have had.”

Regarding the Flint Study Away program, Hailey says that her experience has been exceptional. She also thanks the Flint Study Away program supervisor Cathy White and the Office of Experiential Learning team for the opportunity to intern with the Genesee County Prosecuting Attorney.
