MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Michael E. ThompsonGreeting Fellow Spartans,

As I take over the President's Chair, we all send kudos’s go to Bruce “Coach Sok” Sokolove for a job extremely well done as President of our School of Criminal Justice Alumni Association!  You are a tough act to follow brother!

Briefly, some of the initiatives that the Board continues to work on include, the upcoming 75th Anniversary of the founding of the School of Police Administration/Criminal Justice; funding sources for the MSU Public Safety Memorial on the east side of the Alumni Chapel; establishing a viable cross enrollment agreement with the Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College for our students that desire to go into law enforcement;  and last, but certainly not least, working collaboratively with the search committee to identify a new Director of the School.  More information to follow as each of these projects comes to fruition.

At our last Board meeting on November 5th 2010 we welcomed Steven Brett BA ’89, Nancy Lee Oesch BA ’73 MS ’83, and John A. Toney BA ’97 to the Board.

I strongly encourage all members of the SCJ Alumni Association to save the date of Friday, April 14th 2011 and plan a return to campus to participate in the 75th Anniversary celebration of the School of Criminal Justice.  Remember, we are the oldest continuous criminal justice program in the country.  Your participation in this historic event will add immeasurably to its success.

Please remember to nominate worthy Alumni for inclusion into the SCJ Wall of Fame.  Finally, we are working with University Development to accept donations to fund the Public Safety Memorial.  Your tax deductable contribution, in any amount, will be used solely to recognize those MSU faculty, staff, students, and alumni who have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the public.

With very best wishes,

Michael E. Thompson, Board President
